Many researchers have information that states these effects on gamers are harmful and lead to anti-social behavior. Examples of anti-social behavior that society exhibits are behaviors such as drinking more alcohol, increasing in smoking, having risky sex, and many others. Researchers from the American Psychological Association claim that games cause “specific thoughts, feelings, and actions” to transfer to real world contexts causing deviant behaviors outside the virtual game world (Sargent et al. 300). The main deviant behavior that occurs is aggression. Aggression occurs because electronic game play allows gamers to have less empathy for victims, have a higher belief others are more hostile, and increase feelings of anger towards other (Sargent et al. 301). This behavior increases because children are a part of the learning system in games that has children participate, repeat and get a reward for violent behavior in games such as Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games). Raise smart kid states these learning systems teach children that violence, vengeance, and aggressive behavior are good because it rewards a gamer with benefits in the story line. Another claim Raise Smart Kid makes is a part of video games that increases anti-social behavior is the amount of time a gamer plays. As gamers continue to play for long hours, they spend more time playing games rather than socializing or doing homework, chores and other activities with family or friends (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games). Lastly, Raise Smart Kid claims younger gamers will have poorer performances in school due to the amount of time they play video games. According to a study, gamers are more likely to "argue a lot with their teachers, fight a lot with their friends, and score lower grades" within school because of too much electronic game play (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games).
